We awoke this morning at 3:50am in order to catch our flight to Miami at 6:05am from Dulles. We arrived at our gate in plenty of time and boarded the flight. Then they started de-icing the plane. Flurries were falling. Ha ha, suckas... I'm going to Miami!
Arrived in Miami at 9am and grabbed the rental car and GPS. First stop was Pulse, then lunch, then Aqua Hotel and finally Aqua Wynwood. We got it all done by 5pm. Not bad for 13 hours of awake time.
So far Miami is as expected... at least the city is advertised. In other words, I could never live here. Still, I'm here to experience the craziness of ABMB and by golly I will.
I don't have time for a full download of images from the fairs. But to tide over the readers from DC, here are images of DC galleries.
Aqua Hotel... just as I'd seen in prior pictures. My quick thought about this fair is that most galleries looked the exact same. Same style work (required by space limitations?) and same era (early 2000's anyone?).
Project 4. Looked pretty good. Nothing really stood out for me. Saw one collector taking a close look at Laurel Lukaszewski's work.
Curator's Office. Andrea Pollan is seen wrapping up a small painting that sold. Saw some red dots at all the fairs but very few transactions taking place overall. Jason Horowitz's large photos looked good here. Related to the rest of the work in the fair, but elevated in terms of sophistication and finish.
G Fine Art. Easily the most distinguished DC gallery I saw today. Everywhere I looked was a solid, first-rate piece. Almost all of the artists shown are/were DC-based. Here are 4 small Linn Meyer's works. I swear, if I could afford her work I would own at least one piece or maybe a few dozen.
Maggie Michael at G Fine Art
Dan Steinhilber at G Fine Art. Haven't heard too much from him lately. Wonder what's coming up next for him.
Ian Whitmore, Graham Caldwell and Linn Meyers at G Fine Art.
Iona Rozeal Brown and Jefferson Pinder (new work!) at G Fine Art.
Meat Market Gallery. I still haven't been to their physical space but it's great to see them in action. I thought they held their own pretty well in this crowd.
Randall Scott Gallery... with Randall looking pretty much at the camera.
Another view of Randall Scott Gallery, this time without Randall in the way. I'm kidding!
Conner Contemporary was at Pulse and unfortunately I didn't get the idea to photograph each DC gallery's space until after I left. Sorry about that. I've still got Hemphill, Civilian Art Projects and Irvine to go. Have I missed anyone else that I should expect to see?

Hello! In your Meat Market image, the work on the far right (on the wall) AND the work on the far left are both by artist Geoffrey Aldridge. Just thought you might like to credit the creator!

N,
Looks like you credited the creator for me. Thanks!
In all honesty, it's pretty much impossible to record every artist's name in the Miami art fair extravaganza. For me the work comes first. You can always figure out the artist's name if you really want to.
