Dear Readers,
I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I blame it on my day job and other extracurricular activities. Thanks for sticking around.
I wanted to provide a preview of my upcoming show at the Red Door Gallery in Richmond, VA. As a reminder, it runs from Dec. 1 (opening reception) to what looks like Jan. 14. Like I did for my last show, I will post images here on a daily basis of pieces from the show. I look forward to sharing my new direction with you.
The piece below will be featured on the postcard for the show. We don't mean to assert that it's the best piece in the show (we'll leave that up to you), but I think it captures very well the ideas and imagery to be presented.

Canarywood, Purpleheart
Wood
20.5" x 36"
2006
As always I welcome any feedback or questions you may have. If you'd like to see other images (ahem... collectors! writers! curators!) just let me know.
Thanks!

Hi - it's been a while since I worked with purpleheart, but as I recall you need to protect the wood with a UV safe finish to retain the color. Otherwise it turns brown.

You're probably right Richard. However, I've yet to find a finish that doesn't change the color of the wood when applied. Given that, at this point in time I am doing nothing to the wood at all. Well, I do have one thing I do that isn't really a finish and doesn't change the color, but that's a secret.
If it turns brown, I accept that. The wood, to me, is living. It's going to change over time... sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
