Works in Progress

Anyone who saw my solo show in Reston knows that that first exhibition showcased a wide variety of work. Hence the name, "Studies in Organic Minimalism." I knew that after that period of experimentation and exploration I would then need to be more focused in my work. That's what makes my current work in the "Frames" series so exciting. What follows are three pieces recently begun that will be part of the "Frames" series, one piece that follows in the footsteps of Shadow, and another piece that follows Expanse and Woven. You will notice lines at the end of some of the boards... those will be cut off to even up the pieces. Here are some quick snapshots of them (with "notches"):

Fir_1
Douglas Fir #1 (temp name)
10" x 23.5"

Fir_2
Douglas Fir #2

Fir_3
Douglas Fir #3 (bad color - looks like the Fir pieces above)
17" x 30"

Fir_3_detail
Douglas Fir #3 (detail... bad color - looks like the Fir pieces above)

Maple_2
Maple #2 (bad color... in terms of hole pattern, you'll have to wait until drilled)

Maple_2_detail
Maple #2 (detail - better color but not perfect)

Man, do I have a lot of drilling ahead of me or what...

JT,

It's so important to me in understanding your artwork to see these new pieces in progress. Your concept is clearer. Bravo.

Thanks Joseph!

Soon I am going to document the entire process of completing one of these pieces in photos. I'll start in Home Depot, Lowes or a lumber yard, and document each step to reach a completed, hanging piece. It should be cool.

Thanks again!
