Jesse Cohen: Hidden
Washington, DC, artist, Jesse Cohen, continues my recent project by writing about "hidden." As usual, I extend an invitation to all local artists who would like to participate in this effort. Just email me!
Jesse Cohen: Hidden
The word itself is an adjective, describing something difficult to find, designed to elude detection, or not accessible to view. In the art scene, new artists are often un-intentionally hidden from the public. It is our job, as artists, to create and allow for our own discovery.
The art we produce is usually not designed to elude detection, as the world around us is not elusive by intent, it is just not accessible to view. Sole existence does not always lend it self to discovery.
Art and photography often boil down to the decisive moment, while many times the hidden details are over looked.
In my work, I attempt to discover details that exist in nature, yet are usually un-seen, uncovering a hidden world. To explore the petal’s curve, or a beautiful minute wrinkle on a model’s face brings us to new ground.
In this macro world, I can define and highlight specific details to share with the viewer, as we discover a new world together.
